STURGEON

Astoria SturgeonSturgeon!

A unique fishery these white Sturgeon run in length of only a couple feet to over 10 feet long. Although "keeper" size is 41" to 54" these fish put up a great fight at any size with lite gear. The fishery runs from early June and gets better as the water warms up and the tides bring in the bait fish(anchovies). Retention is usually through late June depending on when the quota is reached. With typically great weather and a lot of action this is a great fishery for kids and families.

Oversize Sturgeon

Oversize Sturgeon catch and releaseThere are few better sites then a 10ft fish next to the boat that just took you 40 minutes to reel in. Using heavy gear these massive fish are catch and release only. I target these fish in the June/July timeframe in the Columbia and Willamette River. The day usually starts by catching shad for bait and then anchoring for the gentle beasts.
